  2. Benefits Administration
The core focus of the Provident Fund department is to give effect to the mandate set out in the Provident Fund Agreement in providing benefits for members of the road freight industry and their dependants.

The provident fund department provides an administration service to the general membership of the Fund and also provides a service to the Provident Fund’s Board of Trustees by providing member information generated at administration level. Overseeing and managing a number of service providers forms a large part of the department’s operations.

The administration of the provident fund is primarily divided into two main areas. The one area is the ‘insurance side’ which includes death, disability and funeral benefits, and the other area is the retirement benefits area. However members need only contact one service area to access both areas.

It is important for members to learn and understand their ‘benefits’. This is important as it gives members the opportunity to manage the risks associated with a lack of knowledge. These risks include the lack of knowledge of the “deadlines” associated with the provision of “claims” information to the NBCRFI. As a general rule, all claims must be notified immediately. But there are certain deadlines which our insurers put in the policy documents such as a deadline to provide information within six months of disability.

Members, unions and employers are invited to go through the document checklist available on this website to see what documents are needed to access both retirement and insurance benefits.
